John was initially the clerk and storekeeper at Stone Hut, near Laura South Australia.

The photo appears in the book ""Memoirs of Land and Sea" by W.T. Orland. ISBN O 9597378 0 4. The caption reads as follows:

Mr John Henderson, born in 1856, was the first Special Constable, and with his wife, opened the first general store in Ardrossan in 1877. He was the first Postmaster, from April 1877-December 1879. Eventually taking up Sections 55-56, Hundred of Muloowurtie, virgin scrub, 1880. Mr and Mrs Henderson had eight sons and daughters. Four sons enlisted in World War One, George, Basil, Leonard, Osmond. The latter made the supreme sacrifice in France, 1917. Basil was awarded the D.C.M., 1918.

John was killed in an accident in 1908.

The photograph is of the General Store that John Henderson had in the main street of Ardrossan. It is believed that this space is now occupied by a Chemist Shop

The attached is a watercolour by L.F Nankervis, a relative of Sarah Henderson, painted 24/4/1937 with the caption on the bottom right corner "Fern Farm Ardrossan John & Sarah Henderson"

3. Untimely Death of John Henderson, 9 Sep 1908, Ardrossan, South Australia. An article in the Adelaide Chronicle of 19 Sep 1908 read as follows:

A FATAL ACCIDENT.
ARDROSSAN, September 10.\emdash Mr. John Henderson, who met with a painful accident at his farm Muloowurtie, last Friday, died at Maitland yesterday.

John married Ms Sarah DAVIS on 16 Jun 1879 in Christ Church, Kadina, South Australia. (Ms Sarah DAVIS was born on 15 Jun 1856 in Macclesfield, South Australia, died on 2 Jan 1919 in Adelaide, South Australia and was buried in St Georges Church Cemetery, Magill, South Australia.)
