Born 1849 Dist. Adelaide to John Barwick Porter and ElizabethBeart. educated at "Young's School" Adelaide.
Entered the service of the Survey Department in Adelaide in 1865. Carried out field work throughout SA until the 1870s. Worked in the main Department in Adelaide rising in seniority over the years.
Married Anna Wilhelmine Koeppen 1873 Dist. Adelaide. Lived at Angas St Adelaide.
Eventually was appointed Inspector of Lands and also acted as Deputy Surveyor General in 1901 and 1904. Lived at Park Terrace Parkside. Retired from Surveyor General's Department in 1914. Was drawing 600 Pounds per annum. Lived at Northcote Terrace Gilberton
Found drowned in the River Torrens in Adelaide Friday 10 April 1925. Buried West Tce Cemetery about 12 April 1925. MH June 2015
