Father was Friedrich Wilhelm Koeppen who was a General in the Napoleonic Wars including the Battle of Leipzig in 1813 (where he won the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross) and the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
In a passport issued to his daughter in 1856, Friedrich was described as deceased, former Tax and Duty Headsman of Neumark.
Hermann married Johanna Maria Caroline OHLMEYER, daughter of Mr Johann Gabriel Martin OHLMEYER and Johanna Caroline BORGER, in 1852 in Adelaide, South Australia. (Johanna Maria Caroline OHLMEYER was born on 29 Dec 1832 in Hamburg, Germany and died on 16 May 1919 in Adelaide, South Australia.)
