Miss Isabelle Coles, a highly respected former founding member of the EPA (SA Branch) has passed away, she was; 76 years of age.
Miss Coles who served the EFA for more than 20 years was also a founding member of the Gawler Three Day Event, the South Australian Showjumping Club, who conducted shows on Coles family land at Pooraka and was also a delegate to both the State and Federal Olympic Councils. She was also highly respected as a showjumping Course Designer and Judge and officiated at local and Royal shows all over the country.
Her administrative skills were no more apparent that when as Honorary Director of Expo 1975 she was responsible for the organisation of one of the truly great horse spectaculars ever seen in this country. Expo 1975, which included a horse parade down King William Street to the Adelaide Oval, showjumping at the Alberton Oval, dressage, hack and pony club championships, was highlighted by a visit from Princess Anne who accepted an invitation from Miss Coles. Following Expo 1975, Miss Coles was deservedly awarded the M.B.E
Sadly, in August 1977 the EFA Committee chaired by Miss Coles were removed from office following a vote taken at a special General Meeting. On that night, many would say a lady of enormous talent and integrity was lost to the Equestrian Federation.
