Migrated to Adelaide from Denmark in 1854

Joachim was a Silversmith and Watchmaker and a founder of Wendt's Jewellers in Adelaide.

He married Johanna Koeppen (nee Ohlmeyer) a number of years after her first husband Hermann Koeppen had passed away. They went on to have three more children.

NOTE: A number of his step children who were born with the surname Koeppen (children of Hermann Koeppen and Johanna Ohlmeyer) added the name Wendt to their names around 1915 and took on the surname Koeppen Wendt. This is due to sensitivities with the German name at the time of World War 1.

1. Wendts Jewellers Advertisement, 1889. This advertisement for Wendts Jewellers appeared in the South Australian Almanac of 1889

2. Joachim and Johanna Wendt and family: Extended family of Joachim and Johanna Wendt, Abt 1900, Location unknown.

This is a photo from about 1900 of Joachim and Johanna Wendt (nee Ohlmeyer) taken with extended family. This includes adult children from Johanna's first marriage to Hermann Theodore Koeppen (deceased in 1868) along with grandchildren from that union. Also included are adult children from her second marriage to Joachim although only Julius was married and none of them had children as of this date.

3. Koeppen Wendt Tree: Original Tree drafted by Barbara Rounsevell in 1983, 1983, Unknown. This is the original tree and clearly shows the link from Koeppen to Wendt after the death of Johanna Koeppen's (nee Ohlmeyer) original husband Hermann Koeppen and subsequent marriage to Joachim Wendt.

Joachim married Johanna Maria Caroline OHLMEYER, daughter of Mr Johann Gabriel Martin OHLMEYER and Johanna Caroline BORGER, in 1872 in Adelaide, South Australia. (Johanna Maria Caroline OHLMEYER was born on 29 Dec 1832 in Hamburg, Germany and died on 16 May 1919 in Adelaide, South Australia.)
